Since moving to Switzerland in 2020, I have been fortunate to discover a lot of great bands here already. Through festivals (such as Kombinat, Alles Post, HAS Festival) and concerts, the country has a vibrant underground rock scene in which I wish to delve deeper into.

The aim of the blog is to discover more bands, to create a platform where I am able to share their music with a wider audience and to understand the underground music scene here in Switzerland. I couldn’t find any similar websites to mine and I hope to help others find bands that they could like.

Furthermore, with four main languages, I am interested also how it works with playing concerts and developing a band’s audience in another region where the language is not necessarily the same. Do the bands singing in French focus more on a wider Francophone audience instead of the rest of Switzerland? Which language to sing in? This extra element is particularly interesting to me.

Some established musicians state in interviews that music “these days” is boring and uninspired. I think that’s not the case. The possibility to create music has reached a lot larger audience in comparison to a few decades ago, anyone with recording equipment at home can put together a demo. However, with this large increase in the number of bands, it also pushes bands to be a lot more creative and to find a way to stand out.

I have been in a few bands, play a few instruments (but not to a high level) and written a few songs but nothing to the standard or to the creativity to what I have found already. Through the blog, I aim to also understand the journey and creative process of musicians. I am English but spent 12 years in France and Germany before moving here. I would say that I am trilingual (and currently learning Italian) and this also explains why I am fascinated by the languages and regions of Switzerland. Lastly, I am based in Zurich but have seen many towns and cities in the last four years.

I have been to well over 200-300 concerts and some of my favourites have been the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Explosions in the Sky, Monotonix, the Locust, Long Distance Calling and Minami Deutsch. I have also been fortunate enough to go to the Glastonbury Festival twice.
